Seoul

Seoul is one of the most dynamic and exciting cities in the world. I had the opportunity to visit this amazing metropolis last month and I was blown away by its culture, history, food and nightlife. Here are some of the highlights of my trip and why I think you should visit Seoul too.

One of the first things I did in Seoul was to explore its magnificent palaces. Seoul has five royal palaces that date back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), each with its own unique architecture and charm. My favorite was Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest and most impressive of them all. I watched the changing of the Royal Guard ceremony at the main gate, then wandered around the sprawling complex of pavilions, halls, gardens and ponds. I also visited the National Folk Museum of Korea, which is located on the palace grounds and showcases various aspects of traditional Korean life.

Another thing I loved about Seoul was its street food scene. There are countless stalls and markets where you can sample delicious snacks and dishes, from spicy rice cakes and dumplings to sweet pancakes and fish-shaped pastries. One of the best places to try street food is Gwangjang Market, a covered market that has been operating since 1905. I tried some of the specialties there, such as bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes), mayak kimbap (mini seaweed rice rolls) and sundae (blood sausage). The flavors were incredible and the atmosphere was lively.

Seoul is also a great city for nature lovers. There are many parks, mountains and streams where you can enjoy some fresh air and greenery. One of my favorite spots was Cheonggyecheon Stream, a restored waterway that runs for 11 kilometers through downtown Seoul. It was a pleasant walk along the stream, with bridges, sculptures, fountains and murals along the way. I also hiked up Mount Namsan, a 262-meter-high peak that offers panoramic views of the city. On top of the mountain is N Seoul Tower, a landmark observation tower that has a revolving restaurant and a love lock fence.

Of course, no trip to Seoul would be complete without experiencing its vibrant nightlife. Seoul is famous for its entertainment districts, where you can find bars, clubs, karaoke rooms and more. One of the most popular areas is Hongdae, a neighborhood near Hongik University that attracts young people with its indie music scene, street art and quirky cafes. I had a blast dancing at some of the clubs there, such as NB2 and Cocoon. I also tried some local drinks, such as soju (a distilled liquor) and makgeolli (a milky rice wine).

These are just some of the things that made my visit to Seoul unforgettable. Seoul is a city that has something for everyone, whether you’re into culture, history, food or fun. If you’re looking for an adventure in Asia, I highly recommend visiting Seoul.

I hope you liked it.
